How to Create the PERFECT Nanny Resume

Having an exceptional and professional-looking resume is one of the most important steps in booking your dream nanny job. A great resume will tell prospective families a bit about you and your personality as well as showcase all of your amazing experience. Follow the steps below to craft your perfect nanny resume.

1. Contact Info

Your contact info should be featured at the very top of your resume. Include your name, phone number, and email address. Make sure your voicemail greeting and email sound/look professional.

2. Photo

Make sure you use a professional looking headshot. You should be dressed appropriately and with minimal jewelry. It is also very important that you are the only one in the photo. No pictures with children or pets.

3. Qualifications/Certifications

After your photo is where you will want to list all relevant qualifications and certifications. This should include things like the number of years of experience you have, First Aid/CPR certified, travel-ready with valid passport, ability to cook for special dietary requirements (ie. Vegan, gluten free, etc.), experience with high-profile families, your experience traveling abroad, other languages spoken, fully vaccinated against COVID, etc.

4. Introduction/Bio

The introduction is one of the very first things a prospective family will see so make sure you are showcasing your very best attributes. This is where you will share a bit about your background and why you want to work as a nanny. The introduction is the perfect place to share what makes you stand out as an awesome nanny! Your bio should be written in the third-person.

5. Experience

In your experience section, you will want to make sure your most recent experience is at the top and work your way back from there. Use last name only if you are allowed to share or keep it simply as “Private Family”. Along with the family, you will want to include the dates you held that position as well as what type of position it was: temporary, full-time, part-time, etc. The next piece of information that should be included is the age(s) of the child(ren) at the start of your job. Under all of that, you will go on to list 4-8 things you did in that position. The goal is to give a good overview of everything you did, without making the resume too long.

6. Other Childcare Related Experience

If you have experience working with kids other than as a nanny or babysitter, be sure to include that on your resume! Experience working in a classroom, as a camp counselor, at a daycare, or as a coach are all excellent things to share with prospective families.

7. Education

If applicable, include your education on your resume. Be sure to list the name of college or university attended, the city in which you attended, dates attended, and any degrees received.

8. Interests

At the bottom of your resume, it is a great idea to list some of your special interests. If you love horseback riding, traveling, playing an instrument, hiking, etc., share it! Families love to see a well-rounded nanny, especially if there is a particular skill or passion that can be shared with their children.

Other Resume Tips

-Make sure your resume is clean, and easy to follow. Be sure to use a professional-looking font and keep the formatting uniform throughout.

-Showcase your best skills and traits, but don’t overwhelm the reader with too much information.

-Make sure you proofread! It is helpful to have a friend or someone you trust look it over to make sure there are not any mistakes you may have missed.

And there you have it - your perfect nanny resume!
